WORDS

Why does a writer write?
Is it for fame
Is it for praise
Or to make the world
a beautiful place

Yes it is.....
But that's still not it.
The words
They are little pieces
of the heart
Tiny windows
through which the soul peeps
There's no him without them
And no them without him
Never were, and never will be

A writer writes
because the words
are his permanence
in the transient world
They are all he is
And was
And all he wishes to be
They are his breath
His tears
His desires
And his fears
He is the brightest shining star
and they are his galaxies

A writer lives to write
And he writes to live
In his words lies his eternity.

LOST TO TIME

You taught me
not to live all my breaths at once
but what could I do
I was already living moments
borrowed from destiny
I tried to cup my hands
and hold in it, the waves
but they kept spilling over
my fingers
right back into the sea

The surf lapped against my palms
comfortingly
Its rhythms soothing me to sleep
like an angel's lullaby
But soon the seeping water
left my hands empty
The wet skin cooling
in the balmy night
the only remaining memory
As I watched helplessly
my breaths trickle by
in transient bubbles
so fragmentary….

SPARKLING

Floating bubbles in space
Shining beneath the stars
Like so many beautiful moons......

They are my cherished memories
All those enchanted moments
God gave me to live
New ones joining them each day
Dancing a little jig
And I can see a whole little world
In each of them
A fragment of my life lived
Now they fill my skies with magic
And each time I'm feeling blue
All I need to do is look up
And watch
These countless blessings
Once again touch my heart
And I smile......
Because life is beautiful!

WE

I've known you for a minute
and forever
All of your enchanting mystery
And yet
my soul has spoken to yours
since time was born
in breaths and in heartbeats
of all of its moments over history.

Through my blood and my bones
you travel
In synergies of cosmic space
Just specks
on the deepest of skies
Still we are the world
And every today and tomorrow
flowing seamlessly from yesterday

You are the sun and the moon
and every star
That shines on my land and my seas
Each smile and tear that rises
from the depths of your heart
In tune
With all of my breathless sighs
entangled in our rainbow weaves

We are the epochs old stone
And the newly formed dust
We are the timeless expressions
of eternity
Carved indelibly in infinite trust.

TOUCHED

I remember looking with longing
At that place left empty
In the corner of my little world…

But it was never empty.

You were always there
Sitting quietly
Your hands cradling my heart
With stars spilling out of you
Drenching me
In all the love that I ever needed
Healing me
With all the scattered fragments
Of your soul
That I knew never belonged to me

In the gentle touch
Of your misty soft embrace
I never once felt alone.

MS

ABDUCTED

I hope and pray
You'll never come searching
Into the dark abyss
Of my delinquent soul
For its cavities are littered
With your words
My wily, wayward shade
Swallowed them whole!

I stole them
When you weren't looking
Those enchanting strangers
And made them my own
Surreptitiously
In their precious depths
I captured
Random fragments of you
That you left behind
Like raw diamonds
Unintendedly.

Now they lie there,
In careless tracks, sparkling
And reflecting in snaking drifts
Charmers in beautiful disarray
But please don't take them back
They're all I have
The moments crafted painstakingly
From distant memories
And dreams left far away

Oh please, will you let them stay?

HEAVENLY PEOPLE

Words well up in tears
From a laden heart
And sit like pearl drops
Of fresh fallen dew
Each one a world
Lost long ago
Memories relived
Yesterdays renewed

I ache for them
To hug me close
I want them to go
And never come back
To hurt me so
I need to be drowned
In their relentless flow
I wish
They would speak to me
In that well learnt voice
So calm and soothingly slow
And stay with me
To pillow my head
Or hold my hand
Just to say “I’m here”
Once more

When sadness
Becomes stars in the sky
And shines its anguish
On my hurting soul
I let it draw pictures
On my iris dark
Maybe
They will build a gate
And let me traverse
The boundaries
To another world
Just to touch for a moment
The reassuring smiles
Left there
On that day long ago….

THE TRIUMPHANT MARCH

It's past nine.
And I'll have
the boiling seas with thunderclouds
for dinner.
A few streaks of lightning on the side.
A glass of tornado juice to wash it all down
till all that's left of the storm
is the stillness of its eye.

By the time the horizons
begin to blush pink
The grey clouds will have turned
to white balls of fluff
their edges painted in amber glow
And the stillness would have turned
to a gently flowing breeze
The moon would be poised
longingly
on the edge of the sky
Reluctant to let the night go

It is the blessed dawn
of another day
Spreading its magic wings
Trying to wipe
the stormful memories
and soar
Life lives its rainbow dreams
Swinging between starlight
and clear blue skies
Wiping the scars of the tempest
Watching the sunshine
sing its delightful songs
And fresh white blossoms
nodding their fragrance
onto the soul

Morning.
Its past nine again.
And the world has overturned
its fortunes,
breathing
in the winds of change.

VACUOUSNESS BLESSED

There was a faceless man
I met once
On a journey to nowhere
Thro' endless voids of space
I asked him the way
And he quietly replied
In his captivating voice
Of soundless grace

I followed
The way he pointed to
Treading carefully
On a pathless road
And soon
I stood uncertainly
On the edge of time
Staring perplexedly
At life's enchanting abode

Eyes tightly shut
I let myself be swamped
By destiny's songs
That had no verse
And angels whispered
For my waiting ears,
These words
Into the gathering dusk.....

“This blank world is your blessing
Dear child
The faith in your heart
An eternal bliss
For God gave you an empty canvas
To paint
Some of your deepest desires
Any way you wish!”

MS

ENVISIONED

Not for my pretty face,
Or wit
But for the empty spaces
In my head
How beautiful it would be
To be loved
Not by hands or lips
But by a wispy soul
Cherishing my roaming spirit
Long beyond life
When my heart is dead

MS

MISTY

All you are is a thought
A silhouette of words
Outlined by shimmering tears
Filled deep with fluid love
Warm and sweet,
Why does a wispy shadow
makes me feel so replete?

All you are is an ache
Laying heavily
Between my dragging breaths
Glistening drops of insanity
Against my soul's dark skin,
How can the weight of tortured longings
be so gently reassuring?

MS

BURN

You are the flare that ignited
From the tiniest little spark
Fueled itself to an inferno
With a stray floating breath
And lit up the deepest dark
Oh! Look at you coruscate
 And make your indelible mark!

Watch the ambers vie gloriously
With tangerines
In an intense dance of possibilities
Invoking all those might-have-beens
Weaving them meticulously
Into tapestries of insistent dreams
Painting your dazzling destiny.

You are not the wildfire
That grew up in the vagrant gust
You are the blaze streamlined
To reach high, and touch the sky
Chiseled from the worldly dust
You're the heart of every star born
Every exhale of the magnificent sun
And each time you're burnt down
Into the ground
You’ll rise from your ashes, like a phoenix
And burn...

Singe the world with your flames
You must! You must! You must!
Today, it’s your turn.

THE DAYS AFTER…

Some day
My breath will give up
And go far away
Leaving my body bereft
Of my words
There will be no more smiles
Nor tears
Or tinkling laughing greetings
To welcome the rising day
These pulsing waves thro' space
Will be my chosen grave
My epitaph, one last post
Sitting atop my Google page

Many might stop by, to read
In a somber moment,
Then quietly go on their way
Some will come here
With flowers in their heart
Reminiscing fondly my passing stay

Maybe there'll be a few
Who'll shed a tear or two
And miss me for a little while
Would there be someone
Who would come here often
To give me a friendly smile

Would a soul still feel my warmth
And talk to my lingering wisps
Giving and taking like ever before
And swim with the stars
And play with the breeze
And walk on warm sandy shores

To that soul who touches tenderly
My thought-streaks upon the sky
I’ll whisper
“I still care as much
  Don’t ever give up
Each time you need a friend
  Come here,
  You’ll find me standing by….”

WHEN MY BABY CRIED

(Isn't Mom always a lovely fairy
who makes dreams come true?
)

For the world I was a mom one day
When a tiny little baby came my way
But I wasn't a mom when I felt
A life grow up inside me
I became a mom when I held her
In my arms
And she stopped howling

I wasn't a mom when I carried her around
Looking pretty
With matching ribbons in her hair
I became one, when she scraped her knees
And tried valiantly to wipe the bleeds,
And I thought, 'life isn't fair!'

She went up on stage, and won accolades
And I was a woman proud
But she made me a mom when she faltered
And all I could do was hold her close
Praying to God to banish her clouds

Not just for all her hugs and smiles
And all the moments of glorious joy
But she truly makes me a mom
With every single tear
That agonies of life makes her cry
And leaves me to wonder why

A HERO

In the middle of nowhere
There was a hole in the sky.
From where he lay sprawled
In a sticky pool
Of fast reddening mud
He could see his little angels
Passing by

Two cherubic faces
Wide eyes of innocent blue
He wondered dimly
Who will hear their laughing voices
When they bickered and jostled
To proclaim
Their exploits of the day
Who will they be talking to!

Until, ever so slowly,
The hole became the sky
That swallowed up his pain
The Star Spangled Banner
Played its fading strains
And he felt himself falling through....

To all those who wiped our tears with their blood
We Love You!
